Terms of Use
Last updated: July 29, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Run or Pay app and website ("Run or Pay", "we"). By creating an account or using the service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The service
Run or Pay is a subscription service that tracks your runs and rewards running with discounts on the subscription. The subscription is purchased and managed entirely inside the iPhone app, through Apple's In-App Purchase. The service requires iOS 17 or later.
2. Account and sign-in
You sign in to Run or Pay with Sign in with Apple. We do not collect a password; authentication is handled by your Apple ID. Depending on your choice, Apple may share your name and an email address (real or a private relay address). You must be 18 or older.
3. Subscription, price, and discounts
The subscription is monthly: each cycle lasts 1 month and renews on the same calendar day each month (anchored to your activation date and time), with a base price of US$ 20.00 per cycle, and starts with a 1-month free trial (see Section 5).
You earn discounts by running: each mile run and counted in the cycle earns US$ 1.00 off your next renewal. Reaching the cycle goal of 20 miles makes the next renewal free.
Discounts are always in your favor, never against you. The amount charged will never exceed the base price — running only lowers the price (possibly to zero), it never raises it. We may, at our discretion, grant additional discounts(for example, "on us" rounding), always to reduce the amount — never to increase it.
How the discount is applied: the discount is delivered as an Apple promotional offer that you must activate manually inside the app before renewal. The activation button becomes available in the last 5 days of the cycle (from day 25)— or as soon as you reach the cycle goal, whichever comes first. Due to App Store technical limits, the discount is applied in predefined price tiers; when the available tier is smaller than the discount you earned, the difference is covered "on us," always in your favor, so you never pay more than the discount earned. If you do not activate the discount before renewal, the subscription renews at full price — activation is always optional and always in your favor.
4. How a run is counted
For a run to earn a discount, it must meet all of the following conditions:
- It was recorded by one of the supported apps:
- iPhone's Fitness app (built in);
- Apple Watch's Workout app;
- Garmin, by connecting Garmin Connectto Apple Health (the watch's heart rate comes along);
- Strava— outdoor runs recorded in the app, with "Workout Routes" permission enabled in Apple Health.
- It contains GPS and/or heart-rate data recorded during the activity;
- It is not a manual entry (typed in after the fact);
- Its pace is consistent with running. Records that are too fast (typically cycling misclassified as a run) or too slow (walking) are automatically discarded.
Nike Run Club does not send GPS data to Apple Health and therefore does not produce valid distance. Other non-Apple watches (Polar, Coros, Suunto, and similar) are not supported yet.
Reconciliation: if a synced run is later removed from its source app (and therefore from Apple Health), the corresponding mileage is automatically removed from the open cycle. Closed cycles are not revised.
Cycle attribution: a run is counted in the cycle in which it ends, based on your local time.
5. 1-month free trial
The subscription starts with a 1-month free trial (Apple introductory offer, available once per Apple ID). If you cancel during the free trial, there is no charge. After the trial, the subscription renews monthly as described in Section 3.
6. Payment, renewal, and cancellation (handled by Apple)
Billing, renewals, grace periods for failed payments, and refunds are processed by Apple through your App Store account, subject to App Store rules. Run or Pay does not collect or store card data; charges appear on your Apple receipt.
You may cancel at any time through Apple(Settings → your account → Subscriptions, or the "Manage subscription" button in the app). Cancellation ends future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period already paid. Apple does not prorate charges on cancellation.
You may also delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account). Deleting your account does not cancel the App Store subscription — cancellation must be done through Apple, as described above.
7. Fitness data and permissions
The service relies on reading your workout information from Apple Health, with your authorization. The HealthKit permissions requested include:
- Workouts — to identify your runs;
- Workout Routes — to confirm the activity was recorded with GPS;
- Heart rate — to confirm real physical activity during the workout window.
Route and heart-rate permissions are used solely for the authenticity validation described in Section 4. We do not store GPS coordinates or heart-rate series — only the record that these signals exist within the workout window. Data handling is detailed in our Privacy Policy.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in iPhone Settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Run or Pay). Revoking may reduce the number of runs recognized as valid.
8. Fair use
You agree to use the service legitimately and not to manipulate, fabricate, or artificially inflate run data — for example, by logging activities that did not happen, editing duration or distance, or using apps that do not correspond to real runs.
Mileage calculation is final: runs discarded by the automatic validation criteria earn no discount and are not revised upon individual complaint. Repeated misuse may result in suspension or termination of the account.
9. Notifications
The app may send local notifications on your iPhone — for example, to remind you to activate your discount before renewal. You can turn them off at any time in iPhone Settings.
10. Availability and disclaimers
We make reasonable efforts to keep the service available and accurate, but it is provided "as is." We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Run or Pay is not a health service and does not replace medical or fitness-professional advice.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through our channels. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the new version.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Any disputes will be resolved in the consumer's home jurisdiction, in accordance with the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code (Art. 101, I).
